Yo Ho Ho
Thanks Rob,Chris 🙂 , I really had to dig deep on this one 😮 , Some of the aircraft are so similar at that time period, The Parasol threw me, I was begining to think it was a French job made under licence  , Same goes for the Vought, Again so English in looks, I remembered the DH-4 being built in the States, Like early Jap cars all very similar :p , Cheers Guys, Tally Ho! Phil. :diablo:

TNZ,
Yes both the XF5B and the XP-15 are based on the same airframe other then that their isn’t much, I will have to pull out my specs. I think its a real Slick plane and one make a rather interesting repo.
Has for the third one let me fire up the old scanner tonight.
Cheers Crazymainer
So that must mean I get half a point for correct airframe but the wrong service testing the airframe…. 😀 😮
Full marks to Phil, though (Stormbird). He’s pretty sharp when it comes to these quizes…
Looking forward to the next challenge.
Cheers

Thanks Crazymainer. 😀
That was indeed a hard quiz !!!!
I’m ready No.3 when you are….
Is the XF5B-1 similar to the XP-15 ’cause they look near identical.

Robs Ball Breakers
And what a ball breaker that was Papa :p , Heres a guess at the last one to go, Boeing XF 5 B-1  , I cannot find a Pic 🙁 , Only read about it, But it sounds like the one, Looks like early Navy Boeing Biplane with bottom wing removed, And tubing added instead of wire bracing, Anyway thats it for me 😉 , Cheers Gents, Tally Ho! Phil. :diablo: (Must crash now, ” Gut Nacht”)

“On October 17, 1922, LT V.C. Griffin made the first take-off from the Langley’s deck in an Vought VE-7SF while the ship was at anchor in the York River in Virginia.”

Looks as if you are correct, Phil!

Getting Warmer
Alrighties,…
I believe the third one down (the parasol fighter) is a Boeing Model 202 XP-15.
This aircraft was only built in prototype form, and was destroyed in a crash in 1931.
Contentious point: This aircraft was only tested by the Army Air Corps, not the US Navy.
TNZ.
🙂PS Still working on the second one. 😉
Sorry TurboNZ,
But nope the Parasol aircraft isn’t the XP-15 but it was build by Boeing.
As for the third one one more hint first plane to take off from the Langley
Cheers Crazymainer

Sure looks like the XP-15, apart from the engine ring . . .

G’ day Chris 😀 , See how you go with the last two, I think Robs clue means they come from the Corsairs company in the 20s  , Tally Ho! Phil. :diablo:

Wow I might have Stump you guys
OK Guys,
Yes all of the photos are US build aircraft for the Navy so this should narrow it down. The two remaining are from the 1920s era.
As for the photos this is why my eduction come in handy I find all sorts of stuff at yard sales and on ebay 😀
Here is another hint I sited the publication in another thread on Corsairs and yes I have responded to it today and yesterday.

I agree they are hard ones to find
Hey Rob 😉 , The last two are hard to find :p , Are they U.S. built and designed ?, The Doodle bugs name from your last navy quiz was a Messenger M-1, Sperry himself drowned in a M-1A in the English Channel, Cheers Rob 😀 , Tally Ho! Phil. :diablo:

Hey Crazymainer,
How does Curtiss 18T sound…. 🙂
TNZ
By: crazymainer - 2nd October 2004 at 04:42
Without checking exact dates, I’d say the Marlin and Neptune are both from the same time period…though the later Marlin with the “T” tail does look newer than the P-2. It’s basic design is immediate post war but it’s an evolution of the WWII Martin Mariner.
Hi John,
Here are the P2V and P5M dates
P2V Contract 2/19/43 first flight 5/17/45 First Squadron VP-ML-2 3/47
P5M Contract 6/26/46 first flight 4/30/48 First Squadron VP-44 4/23/52
TurboNZ,
Yes the first one is a Curtis but its not a F-5 keeping trying. :diablo:
