Credit Cards – What’s in your wallet?

Well, probably not what you think!

After having my Credit Card refused today I checked…..only to find that my credit limit had been reduced from over £10,000 to £800…

…or, as it turned out, about £20 more than my current balance…..effectively cancelling my card! 😡

Good job I wasn’t on holiday in France, like I was last week.

Credit cards are most useful and a preferred method of transaction for sensible people who can control their finances…but sad to say for the majority of people …especially shopaholic Women …they’re are a one way street to crippling debt and Marital problems!!!

I have a choice of debit card or credit card. A while ago an airline would not take my debit card so I used the other card. Lucky for me because it was for Oasis airline tickets and they went bust. And after 7 months I got a full refund of around 700 quid which easily makes the annual fee of 20 quid worthwhile. So the credit card purchases give some protection and for that reason alone are useful tools.

In the days of interest, it was possible to leave your money in a current account while using a credit card to buy everything then pay the full balamce off at bill time and pocket the interest made in the current account.
With the rate now being so low if any, its not worth having a credit card, if you cannot afford it then dont buy it.
Was going to buy a couple of lenses for my 30D they have gone up by a 1/3, so unless my dealer can make me a ground breaking offer on the price he will not be seeing my money.

Only ever use mine for the hole in the wall, or as I like to call them,
the Drink Link:D

went to a place that repairs them a while ago, showed me where they put cameras and fake readers etc….. amazing, they work that hard to steal you’d think a real job would be just as much a challenge….

Just had my card declined

used my switch instead (paying to collect wifes car from service) phone jolly old Barclaycard, punch in my card details and go through to the fraud dept. We’ve noticed unusual activity on your card so cancelled – why didn’t you phone, you don’t hesitate to when you think I need insurance, dental care, etc etc…..

some pond life has taken them for £350 at carphone warehouse, tried again (oddly) for £10 at O2 (topping up the new phone!?)

happy they caught it, not chuffed that they didn’t call or write – bit red faced in the garage just now!

You have a very good chance of getting that back if you ring them…..even after they have taken the money!

Let us know how you get on. 🙂

Sorry, I don’t follow…..was the fact you are overdrawn a surprise, or did you know you were going overdrawn?

I should try phoning your bank (sign-up for telephone banking if you have not already) and have a bitch about getting a £20 ‘fine’ for being £2.99 overdrawn; you’d be surprised how often this can get the £20 refunded. 😉

Also ask if your ‘debit card’ can be made a true debit card; so the card cannot be used to go overdrawn. This should be possible, but it’s not in your bank’s interest…..as they don’t get to fine you so often!

And remember…..the bank works for you…..not the other way round! 🙂

Don’t have a credit card. Don’t really want one either.
If I can’t afford it, I can’t afford it, simple.

Some say that it’s actually good to have a credit card as it boosts your credit rating. Something along the lines of: if you have one, spend on it, and pay it back; it shows you can handle credit responsibly and people would be more inclined to give you credit for loans, mortgages etc in the future.

Doesn’t mean to say everyone should get one though 😀

Couldn’t have put it any better myself. The same applies to me.

A bit risky, but so far its fine!

Well I have a Mastercard which is associated to bmi, so I got automatic membership to bmi’s Diamond Club and 20,000 bonus miles if I spent £250 within 90 days of activating my card (which I did…:D!), and everytime I use my card I get points that are then converted into miles which can then be used at a later date for rewards through bmi or any Star Alliance/partner carrier.

The only thing I have noticed is that my card is due to expire in Sept, and bmi no longer offer the Mastercard credit card, its now American Express, so will my credit card company still issue me with a new MC or just change me over the AMEX one? Suppose I will have to review it when it comes to renewing, to see if its worth it.

I also have a Visa card, but this only used when I am abroad and for real emergencies.

Might sound a bit risky, but I actually tend to pay for most things on my credit card. So far I have never made a late payment or gone over my credit limit, and the credit card company have not radically increased my credit limit…only gone up by £300 in two years, which is probably a good thing as it keeps the temptation from spending unnecessarily!
