Crowland aero jumble. 1st July 2017

Anybody heard about this new event yet. I’m led to believe that its a new event in Crowland near Peterborough. Haven’t heard the full details yet but I understand there are overnight camping facilities and a local grass airstrip for flyings buy arrangement.
Although billed as an aero jumble , 1940’S type stallas and early jet stalls are encouraged.
Hope its a success. Its encouraging to see new events especially ‘in the North’
Might be worth a visit. Any body else up for it !

A group of people I chat to would have gone but none of us knew about it.

As Andy says, aerojumbles need proper advertising to draw people in.

As do may other types of event.

Would of gone but completely forgot this event, some nice stuff to be had by the looks of things.

Looking at the amount of views on this thread makes me wonder how many others may of required a reminder.

A great deal more effort is needed to promote a ‘first’ aerojumble than seems to have been the case here, especially with advertising and with promoting it here and elsewhere.

Not sure if the incorrect email address was placed in an advert, or a free listing somewhere or other? However, if the former then advertisers would be sent proofs of the advert to check before it went to print.

like wise forgot about this event. Living on ten mile or so away i would happy had a look. Shame on the organiser not to post a reminder. Its not all about traders getting to to have a chat how about the general public who simply might want to take a look. Looking back up the thread I dont even see the location being published ?

I kept my options open until as late as thursday.

The weather looked favourable, the location sounded interesting and the idea of an overnight stay on the Fens was appealing.

In the end, it was the complete lack of “buzz” about the event that caused me to decide to stay at home. A 250 mile round trip plus all the associated costs, set against the likelihood of few buyers – sorry, but I’ve done too many of them.

Had there been a few more messages on the forum during this week, to persuade me that people were at least thinking about the event, then I might well have decided otherwise.

Shame. Maybe next year.

It was a Balliol canopy and cockpit section along with the firewall bulkhead. Quite a substantial project for the princely sum of £1200

You can include me in the list of no-show’s, flyingblind.

Had fully intended to and was looking forward to it but the pressure of other stuff just meant it had to be missed this year. I’ll make more of an effort next time though it didn’t help that I’m doing an event tomorrow and had to organise myself for that.

To add to the excuse list a torn shoulder muscle makes lifting anything heavier than a cup of tea a painful experience 🙁

Looks like there were some great items there today. Was that an Athena, Balliol or Provost canopy – or neither?

Anon.

Attended the aero jumble today but such a shame to see that traders who booked failed to appear.
Having said that although there were few sellers and not as many members of the public as anticipated there were some cracking deals to be had. Lots of variety such as an original Typhoon BFP. Lancaster turret parts, Merlin parts, lots of original Spitfire skins, P-51 parts, Mosquito rudder, flying gear and uniforms, Hurricane parts etc etc. I can think of a couple of people who said they were going to go who didn’t who missed on some cracking items at very cheap prices.
Personally I picked up part of a typhoon throttle box, a new old stock Fuel gauge for a Hurricane, Irish linen for a Hurricane and finally some spitfire parts with history
Looking forward to next years event !

Managed to speak to the organizer.
It appears that keypublishing have published the wrong e mail address in the flypast magazine. Anyone wanting to book can do so at
crowland.aeroboot@gmail.com
Thats the e mail address I used and it worked

To be honest, most aerojumbles could do with someone as dedicated to their promotion as our Twin Otter is to Newark’s events. Hardly any advertising, next to no promotion or feedback, how are they expecting people (traders and buyers) to turn up?

“Well, it’s on our web page…”

I’ve emailed them for more details and a booking form. Let’s hope I get a response!

Could be an interesting event. Hopefully it will be well attended and will become a regular event. Too many events these days seem to be falling by the wayside. Is this because interest is falling off or because parts are scarce.?
The facebook page seems to have had a lot of visits/comments. Understand there is a full size replica Hurricane rebuild on site ? Not a GRP one

I understand there is an airfield nearby but the event is not actually on the airfield

Thanks for clarification about the airfield, not many of these aerojumble events about so may pop up there and support this one.

Thanks for the link, interesting to see that they are looking in the future to be the UK’s biggest annual aerojumble / militaria event. I wish them well, there’s certainly been a demise over the years on aerojumbles. Holding it on an active airfield is appealing.
