Took a trip out to, whats left of Croydon Airport, this morning. Sadly the “Terminal” was closed, which meant no pics of the inside or of the tower.
But I did manage to get the following.
Enjoy. 🙂
G-AOXL, resting infront of the terminal building.

Renfrew was being used for aviation from 1912 and that terminal building was built in 1954. Sadly, by the seventies it was derelict after all services were transferred to nearby GLA in 1966.

EAL340… me a time waster? From what i saw last night on the GD forum, you were the one time wasting!
Allen, nice shots of RenFrew. For a 60’s-70’s airport, its looked very futuristic.
Thanks again people for the comments. 🙂

Exactly.
Nice pics Andrew, I love old airport buildings like that, very evocative of times past and the romance of aviation. I wish they’d kept the old Renfrew Airport terminal intact after it closed. They dithered and dithered before eventually demolishing it and building a Tesco’s store in the late 70’s, some ten years after it closed to make way for Glasgow Airport.
Here it is in it’s prime and just before demolition.
