Cuatro Vientos – Monthly Airshows 2012

Planning to visit Madrid this year and hopping to visit the Spanish Air Force museum at Cuatro Vientos and also the FIO collection. The FIO usually has a flying day first Sunday of the month, it appear that the website has not yet been updated, so does anybody know the correct airshow dates. Also just to confuse I remember reading that the FIO collection is due to move to Sadabell, Barcelona and there appears to be a new collection holding monthly airshows there. Is this the new location of their flying displays, and does it mean the end og flying days at Cuatro Vientos.

If that’s how you plan to get there, lots of respect and good luck to you!

I visited Sabadell last August with Air Britain and had a tour of all the hangars on the clubhouse side (unfortunately couldn’t get to the many hangars on the far side as on a coach trip and not possible to arrange at short notice). We saw most of the museum aircraft. If you check the Eurodemobbed list we logged all bar 7 plus saw extra PA23 ex Spanish A/F and an Argus ex USAAF both Spanish civil, plus of course a whole load of civil which I didn’t note as only interested in ex mil. Definitely worth a visit if in the area and don’t forget the 2 KC.97’s just off the motorway.

Dear CADMan!

The flying demonstration of the FIO are always on the first Sunday of a month (except August and January). The respective next one can be found on the CIO’s website. Opening and flying times will also remain the same (at least until further notice). For later months just consult any calendar…

Regarding the FIO’s move: The move – according to my information – will not be to Barcelona, but to the airfield of Getafe (near Madrid). Apparently it has been postponed – I remember having read a respective article in the FIO’s own magazine (accessible through the website). If you browse through the last few issues I’m sure you will find the article.

There it ANOTHER collection not unlike the FIO in Barcelona, the Fundació Parc Aeronàutic de Catalunya (http://www.fpac.org/home.php?lang=eng) which must not be confused with the FIO.

Kind regards,
Thomas
