Cubana IL96 at LGW – 23/01/08

Hey all,
Went to LGW today, weather was rubbish as allways, to see if i could catch the Cubana IL96 that was being allound to operate the service as a one off. But apparently the IL96 is now going to be flying the service more often as Cubana have reviewed there scheduels. Anyway the shots….

Nice pics Josh!

I was sitting airside in the North Terminal when that arrived. Drove right past it on the bus heading for G-DOCG for our flight to Zurich.

The IL-96, CU-T1254 was in again yesterday. Looks as though this will be regular as Cubana have now moved their own ground equipment in for this aircraft.

I used a Tamron 55-200mm lense, and yes they are from the 26L end, and from the road, i just climbed the hedges on the otherside…:dev2:

Lol. What you failed to mention here was that you were soon told by Airport Security to get down from the bush/tree!:D:diablo:

Nice set there! I seen ‘1254’ in CCS a few weeks ago. Was great to get a few shots while i was out with my own airline doing sub work for Santa Barbara.

Thanks the rest of you for your comments…

Is this just from the normal road ? What size of lens did you need ?

James, the Air Transat A310 does most of the flights to/from Canada, so YYZ/YYC/YVR are the main destinations, and on some flights to YVR, it does a stopover in YYC before heading onto YVR!

We do not get to see an A330 very often at LGW, and when they are in, I am usually working so can never get a picture of them…lol!

Thanks Jon so most of the main Canadian Airports then 😀

Any idea as to why AEA decided to ‘pull the plug’ as you say?

I don’t know but I can only speculate that Cubana hadn’t been fulfilling their part of the contract (eg lack of payment). Generally when a contract is terminated at short notice it’s for this reason. Of course it could be that AEA weren’t performing well (eg bad punctuality) but I think it’s more likely to be the former.

Cheers

Damn shame I was working at the time it was in, otherwise I would of joined you Josh!

Nice shots though.

For info Air Europa 767s had been operating for Cubana until last week when AEA suddenly pulled the plug.

Brilliant shots there Josh like the Aurigny ATR 72 & the A310 Air Transat and what route does that do?

JAmes 😎

I think I may go to LGW 9 march. Easyjet are still offering nice fares. First I will have to get the car a new MOT. If the result of that is not too painfull, and the weather forecast is acceptable, then I will try going to LGW again. Have seen some nice Easyjet fares.

Ver nice shots of the 96 !

I haven’t been to LGW for ages. Always thought there was too much in the way to get any ground shots at the 26 end. Is this just from the normal road ? What size of lens did you need ?

Great shots Josh…pity about the rubbish weather though 🙁

For info Air Europa 767s had been operating for Cubana until last week when AEA suddenly pulled the plug. CUB operated an Il-62 on last Saturday’s flight but permission was only granted as a one-off due to noise regulations. It is expected that they will continue to use the Il-96 ufn or unless they can sub-charter something else in. (Fingers crossed for a bit of sun on Saturday! 😀 )

Planned schedule CUB400/1:
Wed eta 0720 etd 0855
Sat eta 1030 etd 1230

Cheers

Cooool, what day(s) and time(s) does the IL96s come in? This would surely move LGW back onto the daytrip list!

Lovely looking jet the IL96.

As a big 4 jetter goes, my list (For looks alone):-
707
Coronado
Dc8 (But not the 64 series which looked altogether too skinny)
IL 96
A340.

If the list could accept a 4 podder, the B-52 would be top.
