I’m going to fulfill a small ambition on Thursday (17th) when I finally get to fly a Piper Cub.
It’s right at the end of my CoE, I’ve plenty of hours, but no instructor time. My aircraft is on protracted (expensive) annual, so I’ve booked an hour’s conversion to type at Clacton!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I’ll let you know how it goes.

(I’ve only got about 7 hours tailwheel and that was ages ago – should be fun.) 😀

Sorry to hear that Moggy. At least you got to fly in something.
My planned trip into Clacton got scrubbed because of the wind 🙁 Clacton would have been fine but getting out and back into Rayne would have been impossible…
I did however have a good cub session on Sunday practising my wheelers. I’m sure the people in the clubhouse at Andrewsfield had great fun watching me land and then go down the whole runway holding my tail in the air. I think I mastered them in the end 😀
I hope your cub wish happens soon.

Bother!
Off I trundled on Thursday afternoon under blue skies and a stiffish breeze, by car, to Clacton.
I got there to watch their Cub land – and waddle off to the hangar on the opposite side of the field for it’s 50 hour check.
“Oh well we thought we’d fly it on an extension for you, but when we checked it was already on its extension”
Sound a bit lame to you?
So I went for an hour and a bit bimble around coastal Suffolk (Martello towers, HMS Ganges, Woodbridge, Hosley Bay prison, Orfordness, Bawdsey Manor, Walberswick, etc etc) in a moderately hard-used 172
Very pleasant, but does reinforce my opinion of the 172. I hate them.
Still, I have another 30 days membership left at Clacton. Must be done.

Hey Glenn
How about bringing your Cub over to Leicester for the taildragger fly-in on 7th & 8th June.
In fact, anyone who has an aircraft, come on over for an afternoon.
Neal;)

Moggy,
To get you in for the mood 🙂

My brothers first flight with me on Christmas day… It was cold so I had the bottom door closed.

My profound apolgies dear sir. I have always been subject to making these mistakes. Calling a Taylorcraft ‘D’ an Auster got me into trouble with an inspector once. Again, profound apologies. (grovel, grovel).:o:D

I assume the Tripacer is private CoA rather than PFA Permit.
Colt dear boy, Colt 😡
Yes it is I’m afraid. Don’t think you can get it onto the PFA 🙁
There has been only halfway-joking suggestions that when Mode S happens we’ll just remove the aircraft from the register and fly it illegally. Don’t you just love the rule makers?

Moggy, ENJOY . My son had a trial lesson in the Cub at Clacton and he was hooked, costing him dear now to get his PPL but it will give me a safety pilot if I ever need one.

Enjoy it 🙂
I’m looking at taking my Cub into Clacton at somepoint over the weekend. I’ll go for a quick walk down the beach, get an ice-cream and then fly home.
Have the door open and enjoy the views.
Let us know how you get on.

I’ve done quite a lot of glider towing in a 180hp SuperCub and found it even more enjoyable to fly than the 235hp Pawnee. I swear you’ll love it!
