Burst her port tyre on landing after her display. No drama – pen-penultimate part of the show – so a short delay before SHAR departures, Typhoon and S&R displays.
Not sure of cause – but the tyre burst well down the runway, long after landing on – I had actually turned away (to see the continuing Sea Fury display).
Sea Fury diverted or, more likely, departed back to Yeovilton.
Over all, I would say a nice days flying – rather then spectacular (that’s not to say I didn’t appreciate any of it – I did, very much) – we really deserve a weekend show down here – so that we can get some of the other stars. What I’m really complaining about is what was missing – Hunters, for one and absolutely relevant to the Navy – but noticeable by it’s distinct absence – the Sea Vixen.
But to those that came “You all did very well”.
Now – where’s me aftersun lotion again!!! 😡

The last time I saw an aircraft tyre burst (Phantom at N Weald) that too was well down the runway.
The cause then was the heavy braking.
