Cunliffe-Owen question

Just wondered if anyone could tell me what the Air Ministry code designator for Cunliffe-Owen was please? Eg: Supermarine was 6S. Thanks!

With all the different subcontractors building Spitfire/Seafire parts and their different codes for these parts and sub-assemblies.Also the various places Spitfires were assembled would make a fascinating book.
Have you ever considered writing one Mark 12? I for one would be interested and I daresay many others would be too.Heres hoping.

The data plates on sub-contracted ‘Frame 5’ firewalls to Westlands and Cunliffe-Owen were prefixed FLWA***** and FLCOA***** respectively. The FL in theory indicates built at Filton.

The Air Ministry ‘Section and Reference’ designator of specific Spitfire and Seafire components was 26AJ****

I am not sure about it being the Air Ministry code, but the equivalent designator for Supermarine built Spitfires ‘6S’ was, surprise surprise, for Cunliffe-Owen…’CO’.

Thanks M12 – I had decided that CO would probably come in to it but wondered if there was also a letter/number code. Of course Westland used WASP (Spitfire) and WASE (Seafire) as a prefix to contract numbers (and component serial numbers) – would we have seen COSE I wonder?
