Cunningham pub New Addington Croydon demolished.

I went to New Addington yesterday afternoon to see whats left of the Cunningham pub,My family told me work had started on its demolision and yesterday afternoon it was around about half destroyed.
German shopping firm Lidl own the land and although they do not yet have permission to build there.
They decided to pull it down for safety reasons after there was a Arson attack on the building although from what i can see it did very little real damage.
The Cunningham opened in 1981 and the first pint was Pulled by John “Cats eyes” Cunningham, Previous to that the building was the Addington Hotel it opened in the 1930s and during the Second world war it was often used by the pilots from Biggin Hill.Since 1981 it had been a inportant part of the local
community.
I feel very sad about this and will let you draw your own conclusions, I have some photos from yesterday but for some reason i can not get the attachments to work.

Its happening all over the UK i think Moggy trouble is we not doing anything to stop it.
I grew up in New Addington and can honestly say the Cunningham was one of only two histotic buildings on the estate the other being Fishers farm which is used by the council, People on the estate did not want the cunningham pulled down and overall it seems they do not want a Lidl superstore either,Tesco’s maybe Lidl no.

Pictures of Cunningham pub as promised i guess shes completely gone now, If anybody has any of her in happier days i would love to see as sadly i have none.
As to the Propeller pub i think my camera needs to wander that way also and catch her for history sake before the bulldozers head that way too.
Its a pity in the country we have little respect for our pubs or modern local history, These pubs were used by heroes who saved our land and now they ruined, Does not seem so right really.

Martin, I can’t see “The Propellor” on Purley Way being far behind.

Nor me and it has been empty far longer and had a few fires.
