Could one of our learned contributors please explain why some Harvards qualify for PFA permit to fly status and others fly on C of As. I understand the basic principles of Permit to Fly vs C of A, however I am puzzled how one type can qualify for both categories.
Thanks in anticipation

I thought G-BKRA was the first (or among the first) Harvard to start operating pleasure flights. It still flies even if it is missing from the line- up here, right?

Certainly does and it was still at Shoreham as of last weekend.

Yes CAA Permit, te ones with a CofA are more likely to be used for commercial purposes such as pleasure flying and flight training.

If any are on Permit, it would be a CAA Permit, surely?

I am almost certain that the Harvard/T6/SNJ is NOT operated on a permit under the auspices of the PFA.
Even the lowly ( in HP ) Auster is presently a marginal case, and may yet be required to have a C of A.
If you MUST have something a bit ‘warbirdy’ and want to have it on a PFA permit, then the P47 or FW 190 is the way to go – Scale replicas, of course!
Perhaps even one of those Spitfire MK26 2-seaters.
