After reading the thread on the ‘new’ German Bf109G-2, which was flown by Walt Eichorn on Friday, I was wondering which of the current warbird pilots out there has the most hours on the Bf109?
I’m sure I once read somewhere that Charlie Brown had the most hours, having test-flown Ed Russell’s Bf109E, and Harold Kindsvater’s Hispano Buchon N109W. Walt Eichorn used to fly D-FEHD a lot, in both its Buchon and Gustav guises, dunno whether he still does?

Steve Hinton – Planes of Fame’s Buchon NX700E??
(He certainly flew it for several hours back in 2000 during the filming of Pearl Harbor)

Someone really ought to snap up “Connie” Edwards’ 2-seater Buchon for training purposes… ARCo?? π

so who could fly Breightons? “Taff” got hours on 109s?

Dave Mackay (current Shuttleworth pilot) also has hours on G-HUNN btw. Brian Smith has time on G-BOML.

So what has happened to Dave Southwood?, he was way up on 109 hours untill the demise of Black 6, and a jolly nice bloke to boot at that.
You will find him flying TFC aircraft from time to time, certainly at Flying Legends.

Charlie Brown did fly Black 6 with Dave Southwood and John Allison.
Robs Lamplough used to fly his Buchon lots.
Late great Buchon drivers were Mark Hanna (his article in Warbirds Worldwide about flying the Buchon reinforced his huge professionalism and respect) and Nick Grace.
Dave Southwood is a real aviation enthusiast who will speak to anyone who shares such interests.

How about Connie Edwards? He flew a lot during the filming of “BoB”. If he doesn’t have the most hours in a 109, he certainly gets my nod for owning the most.
PS. I met him awhile back when he stopped in Abilene for avionics work on his Albatross. A very nice guy.

Don’t forget Skip Holm who flies both the Kindsvater and CAF Buchons.

Was kΓΆnnen Sie von einem Tweed ridden Scot erwarten?
By: Arabella-Cox - 13th October 2004 at 16:05
Yes, he did. And it’s ‘Walter’, not ‘Walt’ Das. π
…which is a perfect opportunity for me to inflict an old favourite on you:
A bloke walks through the Olympic Village with a very long stick, and a passer-by asks him “Are you a pole-vaulter?”
“Nein,” he replies “I’m a Cherman. But how did you know my name voz Walter?”
I’ll get my coat…

Am I mistaken, or has Walter Eichhorn also flown D-FMBB?

I think he was the one who deadsticked FMBB into a field at one of the big German airshows a couple of years ago.
