Curtiss P 40 books

The thread on the Hurricane book got me thinking along the lines of books on the P40, there doesn’t seem to be many. Any recommendations please ?

I’ve just downloaded a bunch from the forum ww2aircraft.net. Free to join and free to download, but at 521 pages the P-40E-1 Parts Catalog may take a while!

Any pointers where to look please?

Ah, there’s the rub. My geriatric connection to the internet is painfully slow but I remember stumbling across a huge selection of them on an American site. Sorry I can’t recall which.

I’m keen to get a copy of the Air Ministry Pilot’s Notes on the Kittyhawk I (or straight P-40E) but, like Sopwith, everything I find seems to be on CD or digital download!

Yes that’s the sort of thing Rosevidney, but it’s a printed one that I’d want and I’ve only seen them on cd. Any pointers where to look please?

You should be able to purchase an inexpensive replica of the original maintenance notes. There are a number of these on-line.

Thanks H87A-2, basically what I’m looking for is more about the aeroplane it’s self, technical etc, as opposed to squadron usage and history of that sort.

Sopwith

There are a number of books out on the P-40, depends on what you are looking for, on the aircraft, variants, or Sqn histories. The more recent releases are better removing some P-40 Myths, but also cost a bit more.

Best books I have seen are Squadron Signals (released in the last couple of years not the early 1990’s one) which gives a basic overview, the best possibly is Curtiss Fighter aircraft by Dean and Hagedorn (however doesn’t go to much into the use on Squadron’s etc all that much), and a couple of the Osprey books on the Snub nosed and long nosed P-40’s by Carl Molesworth.
