Having been a member of the CWH (not anymore) i remember when the Lanc was still under restoration it was discussed about trips the Lanc would make when airworthy one of the concerns was to try and keep the old girl flying as long as possible something that a trip acroos the pond would drastically effect and secondly it costs thousands of dollars to fly the Lanc on it’s normal airshow circuit not to mention what it would cost to send her to Europe there are just too many variables involved in undertaking a project like this not too mention the possibility of mechanical failure while over the water it’s just too risky to jeaopardize over 10 years of restoration work and funding on trip across the pond

Not the word that first springs to mind…
If the Melvin flies the Rearwin it’s gonna be close to the MTOW , will he be able to carry enough fuel for a test flight ?? , bet SR Patterson could carry a few more gallons. 😀

So, it seems that now I and my fellow countrymen have to take credit for this mess too, along with the Iran war.
Do you know something we don’t yet? We are aware of the Iraq war over here in the UK. Is there one going on next door too?
Not yet but the way GWB is talking these days it sounds as though he’s getting close to it, just hope TB says you’re on your own this time George but he won’t.

Patty has no worries there!!!
There was a programme on BEEB 2 last night on a Summer’s day in the Cotwolds. People standing drinking warm beer watching MORRIS dancing.
Couldn’t see any familar faces though, unless they were wearing false beards. 😀

Let me look at my passport here…ah, just as I thought, I’m just another dumb American.
So, it seems that now I and my fellow countrymen have to take credit for this mess too, along with the Iran war. My European friends are never going to forgive me.

yep it ain’t coming….pity but that’s life! Just be grateful that we can all enjoy our historics!
Indeed. And we can only enjoy seeing these particular historics because of the efforts which fluffy and his boys put in to the job.
Thanks for trying guys. 🙂

crazymainer.
Your link goes to a post by Al Moore who provides another link to a piece written by the Chairman of the Board of CWH. I may be wrong, but if the Chairman of the Board is saying one thing and the Deputy Director allegedly says another then there may be serious communication difficulties within CWH. Is that what you are trying to imply? Unless of course, heaven forbid, you have it wrong.
Would you not imagine that a piece written by the Chairman of the Board of CWH might have some credence?
Why is it that when your posts are read out loud it sounds so much like Agent Crabtree in ‘Allo Allo?’

The remark about communication difficulties is very typical of human nature-we all talk to each other but we often don’t listen so we don’t communicate. Good advice-we have two ears and one mouth because we are supposed to listen twice as much as we speak.
In response to the original theme of the thread I agree that it is a pity but really not a surprise considering the logistics and costs involved to make it happen.

Talk of Pacific flights – our Own Oscar Duck brought a B25 out accross the pond from the US quite a few years back and then there was a Ventura and a Loadstar and the Canberra from the UK and the Aussie Canberra to the US (where it it now) so it can be done just needs thorough planning and guts ……

I cant help seeing pic’s of that Shackleton lying on the desert floor after a similar attempt… and wondering.
But having said that, i cant recall any incident where a warbird has been lost flying over the pond, all the B-17’s and B-24’s made it ok.
Saw an excellent programme on the History channel about that flight, such a shame but there have been other successful trips such as the Vimy replica (does that still fly?) to Oz or the Super Connie from the Arizona desert to Sydney, the Pacific is a darn sight bigger pond. criyng shame no funds could be found for the venture though.
