Anyone out there know what the story is with the vodka? Is it some kind of Tradition where this man came from?

An offering for the dead. A pagan legacy. Also burning a glass of vodka for each comrade that had died in battle as in Wajda’s film Ashes and Diamonds.

A touching gesture. I thought this was an ancient Russian tradition but maybe it is common to all Slavic nations?
