Yes music is a bit repetitive by the second fim, but great film though gives a real feeling of the moment, the dog soon moved with the help of the merlin !

Great piece of footage, bloody awful repetitive music, had to watch it with the sound turned down.

Yes, it was about that time. Thanks for the offer Jerry but I think it’ll turn up eventually. Get your car sorted out!

Jerry, I think I lent you the video and you did return it to me! It has since disappeared though but I don’t think I lent it to anyone else. As I recall, it was only a fraction of the material on YouTube but did include extra footage of 311 Sqn at Talbenny.

Hi Dave,
I copied it back in 1998/9 was it ? around about the time I sent you some Isle of man wartime grid maps.
I recall I luckily had a friend with two vhs recorders and he copied it,If you wish I will try to copy it to a cd or dvd,Let me know,But it may take a while as I have my car in bits on the driveway at the moment.
‘That will teach me to buy a subaru he says’

It sounds a great place! Reminds me of the Avion Club in Prague.

Hi
Thanks for posting the link, I had this on vhs years ago and never got around to putting it on my computer, saves me from having to do it now.
If it is the full film, there is also some harrowbeer on it as well.

That’s the Czechoslovak Spitfire Wing at Exeter, probably during mid-/late 1942. In the opening scene you can see both Czechoslovak and Polish flags on the mast, because the Polish night fighter squadron, No. 307, was also based at Exeter. You can see its black Beaufighters for a moment about 0:42 of Part II.
In part I you can see a Spitfire coded NN-A taxiing (9:02-06). That’s AR501, the Shuttleworth Spit. You can also see No. 310 Sqn board with aircraft letters and pilots’ names (4:23-26) with ‘A’ by the name of Popelka – that is also AR501.

Fantastic footage… many thanks for the pointer! 🙂
It appears that one of the Spitfire’s in the clip was a Mk.Vc coded DU-U and appears to have the serial AR511. If good old Google is to be believed, this example served with No.312 (Czechoslovak) Sq. RAF based at Harrowbeer in September 1942 or Churchstanton in Spring 1943…

Perranporth (Trevellas)
edit, unlikely, background in some shots doesn’t look right.
