Have been seeing posters in the Guildford area over the last few weeks for a D-Day Concert on Saturday 5th June at Dunsfold Business Park, formerly BAe Dunsfold, and proper adverts have appeared in the local paper today.
It seems that gates open at 4 pm for picnics, there will be a static display of WW2 planes and vehicles, an orchestra playing big band sounds of the forties, food drink and WW2 memorabilia stands AND, at 7.30 pm, a Spitfire flypast to the music of Walton’s Spitfire, Prelude & Fugue. The Royal Philharmonic Concert conducted by Carl Davis then performs a D-Day 60th Anniversary concert with a music and fireworks finale ending approx 10.30 pm. All for £25.
Dunsfold is very local to me and I wondered if anyone here had any idea what the static WW2 planes are likely to be? Looks to potentially be a pleasant evening.
Either that or will be standing on the A281 watching the Spit from over the fence!!
Thanks

No probs Mike.
I’m glad someone has bought it to our attention again. 🙂
Should be a good show and as you say, it will be good to get some life at this histroic airfield going again.
Just had P7350 hold over sunny Haslemere and surrouding area for 5 minutes or so holding for it’s Flypasts at the Tilford Rural Life Centre and an event at Farnham. 😀
Amazing how half the street comes out when they hear the sound of a Merlin! 🙂
Cheers

Thanks Paul, I missed your original thread because I was returning home from the USA that day, was a bit dozy!
Anyway, looks interesting and would be good to get on the old airfield again after nine years….with a bit of music thrown in 🙂

I’ll keep an eye open for Mr Clarkson. 😮
I’m suprised I’ve not bumped in to him before as apparently he’s been known to stay here in Haslemere whilst filming Top Gear!
Good point about the AH stuff.
I wonder what else they have down there?
I heard about the Dak but didn’t know they moved other stuff as well.
Cheers

Have Aces High not moved some stuff to Dunsfold? Maybe their DC3 would be on static, just watch out for Jeremy Clarkson.

Mike,
I already mentioned this event here a while back hoping to find out who’s Spit was doing the Flypast!

I’m not sure what the static planes are going to be (maybe someone here knows) but it would be nice if TFC’s B25 (ex??!!) could be there as the RAF flew these from Dunsfold around the time of the invasion.
Actually, it’s lucky that anyone knows about this event at all as Waverley council seemed to enjoy ripping down the posters. 😡
Btw, BBMF Spitfire and Dakota are going to be in the ‘area’ tommorow (actually I should say Today!) to do a Flypast at Tilford for an event at the Rural Life Centre:
