Does anyone out there happen to have photos of the Dad’s Army Recreators who apparently appeared at the 2004 Biggin Hill airshow?
I found mention of this on the ITV Archives site, relating to a news item about the airshow. Here’s the transcript:

Hi
Check http://www.therealdadsarmy.co.uk/ for the details. They were at Shoreham last weekend.
THEY were there but I was in BAFTA at Piccadilly drilling yuppies from British/American tobacco Corp as Sgt Major.
I quit Dads Army as L/Cpl Jones Sept 2005 after 13 years on the road. They still use my piccy for 2006 Shoreham I note. But a new guy has taken over. Im still pals with them though.
Yep! just had a look on their site and the guy who is supposed to be Jones in the line up is not me. Ahem…If I may be so bold was considered to be the….Better man…According to press reports that is….:diablo:

Does anyone know which group this is? Where they are based? Are they one of the theatre groups, or the lot from Newhaven?
The Dads army group are called ‘The Real Dads Army’.

Thanks Will. Wonderful. Mainwaring realy looks the part. I think Arthur himself would have been most impressed and flattered.

That’s a gorgeous Rapide by the way!

Goodwood revival 2004, with our Rapide G-AGTM. Some of the characters are so accurate it is quite spooky! It was quite funny to see one of them, naming no names, answering his mobile phone! Though in fairness, he was doing his VERY best to hide away and look inconspicuous, they try really hard to get the atmosphere right!

Thanks for the photo Neal H, wonderful.

AIB,
Private Pike (as seen in Shoreham photo) just happens to work for me, personal appearences are avaliable at a very reasonable hourly rate + my expenses. (Comes complete with scarf, but Tommy Gun extra.)

The Jackdaw…
I wonder if they charge to appear.
I was just thinking that they’d look good at the forum meet at The Jackdaw in March.
Moggy, can you get Miss Susanna York to put in a personal appearance too???
And just for you Moggy, here’s the girl in question.
It’ll help to warm you on a cold Winters night.
Cheers
Andy

Here’s one I took of the group at Shorham 2003. Somethimg I won’t forget is at the end of that weekend I saw the chap who plays Mainwaring get into his car and beep his horn with his belly, very funny, very Mainwaring.

James,
I have searched and searched and cannot find the thread you speak of.
Does anyone else know where it is? I know there are a few Dad’s Army re-enactor groups in Britain. One is The Barmy Army Film Club who are based in Maidstone, Kent, who make films but are not strictly based on the characters. Another group are based at Newhaven Fort in Sussex and try o be the characters – with a ver lifelike Mainwaring. They marched in the parade for the Queen Mother’s 100th with some of the real cast. Also there are theatre groups at Tring and at Portsmouth who have both done very successful stage shows based on the series, with lifelike impersonations. Some of them have done appearances too I think, at the Dad’s Army Museum.

Hi Dave,
Septic, I and some others posted some shots of the recreators under the Biggin Show threads after the event; try a search. The same group (I believe) attend Shreham among others. Anyone else able to help?
Cheers
