Daft Spitfire Question

When I were a wee lad and went to lots of airshows (late 60’s and early ’70’), there were lots of noisy jets and so forth, but the only two aircraft I really remember was a Lanc (BBMF one?) and a Spitfire.

My memory is the Spit was a two seater, painted (PR?) blue and perhaps privately owned by someone who I remember (probably wrongly) as Paul somebody. IIRC it was the only Spitfire doing the airshows back then.

What, who, when, now etc?

This one? Supermarine Spitfire T.8 G-AIDN probably at White Waltham in 1969.

Thanks Melvyn,

Hants makes sense as I lived near Bournemouth (which wasn’t in Dorset at that time). I went to Middle Wallop for sure and maybe Thruxton??

My Dad keeps threatening to find his slides from that era so who knows…

MT818/G-AIDN bought from Vickers by Viv Bellamy and the Hampshire Aeroplane Club. Sold in about 1962 to Viv’s brother-in-law John Fairey who displayed it until the early/mid seventies. It is now in the Tilamook museum of Jack Erikson but has not, apparently, flown for some time.

This is the first aeroplane I ever remember seeing and is part of the subject of a forthcoming article in Aeroplane (remeber, other listings magazines are available).
