Mark,
Your “digitally remastered” piccy of PS915 at Duxford appears in the letters pages of todays (1/4/2004) Daily Mail along with a supporting letter explaining the scheme’s significance
Nice bit of PR for the BBMF, HFL, Duxford and of course yourself ;):)
Just thought you might like to know

Saw it too – well done Mark12, I think a lot of people will notice it and perhaps think a bit over breakfast.

jbs,
Thanks for that. I better go out and buy one … or perhaps two.
That will be one of the 35mm shots. I gave them the choice of with or without ‘High Vis jacket re-fueling man’. 🙂
This whole ‘The Last’ thing started with the Daily Mail in July 2002.
George Yallop, ‘airframes’ at Seletar, submitted a photo taken by his friend Brian Rose, ‘painter’ at Seletar, to the ‘Every picture tells a story’ picture panel – they published.
It was general knowledge that Mk XIX Spitfire PS888 had carried out the last RAF operational flight on 1st April 1954. Although I had a number of photos of PS888 over the years in service with both the RAF and RThaiAF, it was certainly new to me that it carried ‘The Last’ logo on the port engine cowling.
I had done the ‘Leaping Panther’ paint scheme for PS915 and bounced a couple of ideas for a replacement for it and other Spitfires in the BBMF past Paul Day. When I saw this new photo with the logo, the opportunity to break away from an all over PR Blue on a Mk XIX seemed just perfect for the next repaint – Paul Day agreed.
Mark.
