….well, a bit of a festive makeover! In preparation for our Dakota 72nd anniversary open day at Coventry Airport on Sunday 16th December.
Entry costs £10 for adults, £6 for kids, including entry to Santa’s grotto in the Twin Pioneer! Dakota G-AMRA will be flying all day, G-AMPY and G-ANAF (the red one) will be on show in the static park. Flights on G-AMRA are £65 each, check http://www.classicflight.com for family discounts.
Gates open at 1000, if you are just coming along for a ground tour, it would be advisable to come later in the day as at 1615, as it goes dark, we plan to ground run the Shackleton and ‘The Flying Dutchman’ DC6 G-APSA at the same time, eight classic engines and twelve classic propellers all combining to make and unforgettable sight and sound!
Anyway, enogh of the sales pitch, here are some pictures of me looking very cold…. and of the stars of the show!

At the end of the day I saw Will J’s bike leaning against a post on which was a sign saying “Danger – ejection seat live” 😀 :diablo: 😀
Roger Smith.
…although it is not the most user friendly of ejection devices, you have to get up to a good speed and jam the front brake on suddenly to make it work!

Saw Jesse James thread before this one and posted on there. However a couple (more) comments about today applicable here.
G-AMRA as well as the red nose and the name “Rudolph” when it was on the apron waiting for it’s next load of passengers had a piece of card inside the cockpit window with a large reindeer eye painted on it 😀

Partly in answer to Ant’s queries, a bit more on where we are!
The event is accessed via the airport’s west gate, next to the Oak pub in baginton village, avoid following signs to the airport terminal, as this takes you a fair distance the wrong way! The number 737 bus goes from the station to the main terminal, but this is more than a long walk from the west gate!!
I think that Midland Air Museum’s website has more useful information about buses to the Baginton village area. Otherwise it is about 5-10 minutes in a taxi.
Hope this helps 🙂
