Can anyone shed any light on these relic sections of Dakota fuselage sections recently photographed “somewhere in England”!? The smaller tail section was converted into a caravan (note the vehicle number plate) and the bigger section has “553” marked internally. Presumably this is RAF serial KG553? On the fuselage side can be discerned AGJX, so presumably this would have been G-AGJX. Someone out there will be able to confirm that KG553 became G-AGJX….but what became of it later? A crash at Croydon has been suggested as the origin of the latter section. Andy Saunders

Thank you for that, Martin! Somewhere, by chance, I have recently read an account of that very incident written by a survivor. I think it must have been a local paper? I didnt pay much attention to it, but its spooky that the fuselage from that very incident has now turned up in a what was a scrapyard! Andy Saunders
