I am sorry to have to report this, but I was shocked to hear this morning that Dam Buster, ala Keith Jones, has passed away on 29th January.
A long time Flypast Forum member, passionate aviation enthusiast, fellow SallyB Ground Crew member and friend – I will miss him dearly.
I will miss his large jolly outlook on life, his never ending entertaining stories and jokes! And his deeply warm heart. An altogether great chap to be around.
Our thoughts go to Mrs Dam Buster at this time of sadness.

To all Flypast Forum users, it is with great sadness that ‘ Dambuster’ Keith Jones, my husband is no longer with us. He took ill suddenly on 27th January and suffered a brain haemorrhage, he was rushed to the best hospital in London but the operation did not work, it was so severe. He died on 29th January. He will be a great loss to all aircraft enthusiasts, with his knowledge that he built up from a very early age. As the saying goes ‘ if you can’t beat them, then join them’, so I worked with him on ‘Sally B’. We have been helping out for the last 25yrs, I will still continue to do this. He was also very much into 617 squadron as well.
My work colleague has told me about the messages on your website so far, please pass on my grateful thanks to all those who have contributed. The funeral is taking place in Sittingbourne Kent on 18th February, if anyone wishes further information, then they can contact me on Scampton617 at aol.com

Very sad news Keith was a real character, both Hairyplane and I instructed him at Rochester.Checking my logbook I first flew with Keith in 1979 quite a few times after that and our last flight together being in 1981.Like HP I very clearly remember Keith as an exceptionally able student really quite gifted. He was good fun in the pub and I remember a very enjoyable dinner one evening with Keith and Ann at their place.Hard to believe its all so long ago.Happy flying Keith…..we,ll all be joining the formation later!!!

That’s awful
Another one to add to those who make us jolt with surprise when we suddenly see their name on a posting and then realise it’s a zombie thread.
If friends and family read this, you have my thoughts.

Hi Peter/Bruce
I received an email from the SallyB office earlier today with the sad news, apparently Keith suffered a Brain haemorrhage and unfortunately his condition was untreatable.
I didn’t really know what to say but felt I should post it as I know there are quite a few people on the forum who knew him.
Terribly sad. His presence and wit will certainly be missed lots and lots by all within the SallyB team.

I did not know Keith, but this must have been sudden, having read his recent posts.
I have made this a sticky for a while, so it doesnt sink down the list.

Keith Jones
I knew Keith.
We were both cops back in the 70’s when I was a part time flying instructor at Rochester and he was a very able student.
The last I heard he was either a Sergeant or an Inspector in the MOD Police.
I don’t believe he ever got his PPL.
He was no great age, early fifties I guess. What happened to him?
I am sure the Sally B crew will miss him greatly.
Sad news indeed……

Sad indeed although with the passing years inevitable. RIP Keith Jones and condolences to family.
