Roger, this sort of thread constitutes forum sclerosis. It’s happening regularly and it’s irritating.
If it’s annoying you, stop coming back and reading and/or posting on it!
You’ve done a good job of keeping it at the top!

I TRY to avoid criticism of other Forum members but lighten up Robbo 🙂
As Blue Robin has said his question was answered in the next post and you (or anyone else) need not have gone further.
However the thread DID provoke some humour and, perhaps, thoughts about the vulnerability to wind of aircraft standing outdoors – let’s all be thankful it was only an FSM.

You would have thought though, that given the fact that it gets very windy at DX , especially in the winter, that they might have put it in a less exposed part.
As a “travelling exhibit”, presumably it doesn’t have a designated space, but a fsm, is too light (relatively), just to hang concrete weights on them; I’ve got a piccy of MH434, and its got 60-70lbs of weight in the tail.

This is only a suggestion the aircraft did look good when we visited in November but to put it out side the American part was there a reason behind that.
I don’t know, but I will offer two suggestions
1) There was space there
2) It is in proximity to the ‘Friends of Duxford’ tent at airshows.
I suspect the first is the most likely

Replacement
If the IWM put another Spitfire replica or rebuild this one what they would need to do is put dig holes to put concrete in with rings in them and use these to tie the aircraft down. If the aircraft has no eye loop to do this the aircraft might need to be modified to have them.
This is only a suggestion the aircraft did look good when we visited in November but to put it out side the American part was there a reason behind that.
With Duxford exposed from winds from the southerly half the might have to think about the big aircraft that are parked out side the last thing you would want is one big one turning and damageing one next to it so will they need to spread them out?

In injecting some humour I sought to get the point across in a way that made more of an impact that simply pandering to your request.
I suppose we’ll just chalk this up as another episode where “humour” failed, perhaps because it wasn’t very funny in the first place?

Oh no!, yet another thread gone belly up
Because of this comment?
A full-size model of a Spitfire blows over in high winds. Photos are posted on a number of aviation forums and people make comments about it.
Next someone who hasn’t bothered reading any of these threads asks what has happened and a helpful soul points then towards a thread which didn’t need posting in the first place because the subject had been discussed at length already. Are you managing to keep up with the lightning speed at which these events are unfolding, BlueRobin? Yes? Good, I’ll continue.
So, in essence, the story is that you’ve posted a thread that must rank amongst the most pointless threads ever to see the light of day on this forum. Pardon me whilst I yawn very loudly. Perhaps there’s some exciting hidden subtext to these events? Perhaps not.
Robbo, a simple nice “there’s some photos of it here on the thread” comment with a supplied URL would have been sufficient!
We cannot be expected to read every thread on this or other forums. Would you also berate the pilot on FLYER for not also having seen the photos? A search could have been a quite extensive task. As it happens *Zwitter* kindly replied without issue 5 minutes later (thanks) and the issue was resolved.
So do you have a gene that precludes you from using some civility? Not for the first time in the last seven days you have sought to shout someone down in a rude and insulting manner. I need not remind you this attitude is generally not the done thing around here.

Oh…………THAT Spitfire news…..
For a moment there I thought Robbo had discovered the other Spitfire news from the far end. Never mind, there’s only another two to look out for 😉

Hornby bought Airfix
By: *Zwitter* - 14th January 2007 at 14:53
I beleive Airfix did place limitations on cross wind landings for this airframe..:diablo:
Who holds the design authority now that Airfix has gone bust?
Fisher Price?

Out of sheer boredom, I will.
I think you will find it has been covered both here and on other fora but the aircraft in question is a full scale model. Apparently it was certified for just the one flight but the landing went wrong with disastrous consequences. The pilot for this one off flight, Mr. A. Man, was reprtedly uninjured.
No decision has yet been made on whether this aircraft will make an appearance at Legends.
