Dambusting Rapide!

If anybody out there fancies a bit of Dambusting in a vintage dehavilland Dragon Rapide this weekend then get along to Sheffield Airport. I will be there doing my volunteer bit along with Air Atlantique Classic Flights Rapide G-AGTM. The plan is to follow the route of the dambusters practice flights, these flights always prove popular and were hoping for another busy weekend. The cost of a flight is £55 per person. Below are a few photo’s of the old girl taken this year at events.

Oddly, is is probably the UK’s newest airport, but the plane, and the scenery, remain historic enough 🙂

PS Email sent to the airport!

Will – re-read what he wrote!
“Loved the Rapide ride I took from Duxford on my last visit.
Great fun to fly from a historic airfield in an classic plane.”

I don’t think you would disagree that Duxford is historic?

Have just checked the airport site, it is indeed the poster I had sent to the airport to promote last years event!

At least it will have meant people coming early rather than late!

If you haven’t been up in the Rapide it’s terrific. I went up from Halfpenny Green and it was a joy. As Air Atlantique say – the Learjet of the 1930’s.

Slightly OT – interesting talk at Cosford last week by the AA MD. It’s a brave business to be in.

Just checked the Airport’s own website and it rather confusingly displays a poster stating the Rapide flying is (was) 16th/17th September.

I assume this is last year’s poster!

I’m interested, and might pop over if the weather’s ok.
