His life story appears in several other movies including Above And Beyond and On A Wing And A Prayer. 
The book deals with many more issues and he mentioned to me that the military censor cut out large portions of his autobiography.
I think there are many important stories there that ought be to be shared – especially in English.

So is the book, about which Mpacha enquired in 2013, entitled ‘Born to Fly’, rather than ‘Alone in the Sky’, or has Danny Shapira written two books, their titles being the foregoing?

I know that this is a very old post yet I do have your answer as I just spoke to the gentleman yesterday afternoon when he called me in response to my letter.

He also asked me if I think anyone would be interested in reading his book Born to Fly written in Hebrew and he also asked me if I would be interested in translating it into English.
We chatted for about an hour and a half and it was truly an honor and a wonderful experience.

BTW, the man is sharp as a whip and he will be 96 this January! He asked me a very smart question … If people even read books anymore.

Not sure about Danny Shapira but Alone In The Sky was certainly the title of a book about Jean Batten. I believe it was a longer version of her autobiography originally written in 1938.

Not familiar with the book, but there is a film about his life and experiences. Here is a trailer from that film. Also he tells his story of flying the first captured MiG-21 in the “Dogfights” series from the History Channel.
