Darryl Greenamyer, best known for setting a world’s speed record in his Grumman Bearcat has passed away at the age of 82.
After graduation from university with an engineering degree, he flew fighters with the Air National Guard and later joined Lockheed as a test pilot for the SR-71 program.
In 1969, his modified Bearcat set a new piston powered speed record, eclipsing a 30 year record set by the Me-209.
He also raced unlimited at Reno and was the winner in his class several times. Later he rebuilt a salvaged F-104 for more record attempts.
