DAS Air Cargo back to Europe.

See below the press release from Das Air Cargo. Have marked the main bits in bold. No report on the routes that are to be started, but the grapevine mentions they would only fly to Ostend (Belgium) for now.

News Update : Dairo Air Services / DAS Cargo Resume European Operations.

Date: 5 March 2007 : 14:00 GMT
Issued By Dairo Air Services, Uganda/ DAS Air Cargo

It is with a great deal of pleasure that DAS Air Cargo announces the resumption of European Operations.

The company received notification from the European Commission on 5 March 2007 confirming that the airline will be removed from the list of banned carriers operating in the European Union effective from midnight on 6 March 2007. DAS Air Cargo has worked tirelessly in order to resume European flights and with the full regulatory support of the Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority has addressed all the safety concerns raised by the European Air Safety Committee.

The airline wishes to put on record that whilst supporting any directive which aims to improve safety it regrets the European Commission decision to have initiated operating restrictions in the first instance. The airline has always been, and remains committed to the safe operation of its aircraft. The restrictions have forced the company to reduce the number of aircraft operated and as a consequence this has significantly reduced the size of the business. It has been particularly regrettable that a number of employees have been made redundant during this downsizing process.

With the positive news that the airline can now restart European operations it is anticipated that the commercial management team can now secure new contracts to rebuild the Africa to Europe route structure, and also offer aircraft availability for the European ad hoc charter market or any ACMI requirements.

Finally, DAS Air Cargo would like to take this opportunity to thank all the associated companies, organisations and individuals who have provided their support and messages of goodwill towards the airline in the past five months.

Thought they only had three DC-10’s now?
James

Maybe not that! I would now suggest 2 active, 3 stored and 1 destroyed.

Some other good news is that DAS have got a deal to maintain World Airways DC-10’s at MSE.

First of which arrived during the week and departed yesterday.
