Guys
Can anyone help me with a Question?
How does one go about conserving/restoring small data plates from the various parts of an aircraft and radios etc. I have a small collection of them mostly brass and was wondering if it is better to leave them be or try to polish/conserve them?
Over to you….!

Data Plate Restoration
Hi everyone,
I have a similar problem with a couple of plates we recovered from a B-17 site; one of them is bent almost double (I daren’t even attempt to straighten it – any ideas or suggestions?)
The other is from a P-38 site and has lost all its paint, and I was also wondering whether or not to fully restore it, or leave it “as is”.
Thanks.

Scotch..? Bailys
Thanks Mate. Some of them are raised lettering some are stamped. I am not sure if they would be black originally as theres no paint left on any of them not even a trace.

Good question…
We are in the same boat.Depending on it,s construction,etched,embossed,stamped..
Embossing I,ve heard strip the paint, repaint black then “carefully” take the black off the raised parts with fine wet and dry or with thinners on a cotton swab. Also would work with stamped..Ohhh and about half a bottle of scotch to relax the nerves while you do it…;)
