Dave Roome and BBMF

I was meant to be on BBMF for the 1978 season, having been posted back to 228 OCU as a staff instructor, but was informed in February of that year that I was to be promoted sqn ldr and posted to CFS at Leeming. As a result, the brochures for the 1978 season on BBMF carried my photo, but my place was taken by the then Wg Cdr John Allison, OC 228 OCU.

Also, to correct another post here, I did my instructional tour not on the JP, but on the Gnat at 4FTS Valley from 1972 to 1975.

I was on the Flight at the time and can confirm he was nominated to join, and put in the brochure, but it is possible that he was posted before he was checked out.

I can now confirm he was 1 of the fighter pilots. Was e-mailed a photo but can’t upload from iPhones to here 🙁

Yes he was. I have a BBMF brochure here somewhere with his picture in it, sitting in one of the fighters.. 1977 or 1978ish

And he did a tour as a QFI on JP’s after he finished his Lightning tour in ’71 with 74 Sqn out in Singapore.
