I’m out of ideas as to where to go for some summer day trips,i’m after airports that have a day return from dublin & have ok spotting/photography opportunities, being within about a 30 minute walk from the terminal would be good too.Places i’d like to go from looking at the images thread are prestwick & gatwick, but i’m open to goin to the smaller airports like east midlands or birmingham if could opportunities are to be had;)
Any advice greatly appreciated:)

Well Gary I try to make at least one day trip from DUB a month.
Obviously you can get just about anywhere in the UK.
In the last year Ive done FRA, DUS, SXF and LHR and they are all great spots although the day return flights to SXF are no longer available.
Also available from DUB with EI as well as some other airlines are BRU, CDG, MUC,AGP, ALC, NCE, KRK and MAD. If you look at the EI schedules BCN is also available for the summer.
Although a little more expensive you can try BHX, BUD or WAW.
And there is some others if you fly out with one airline and back on another although times arnt ideal but they include RIX and BTS/VIE.
So the number of day trip oppourtunities from DUB is far from limited.

If they’re landing on 26L at Gatwick then that’s just outside the south terminal.

Gotta be manchester.
There’s a bus about every 20 minutes to the viewing park. Although if you can hire a car you can get to some excellent spotting places 🙂
Birmingham is OK. But at manchester you’d get much better traffic.

I assume thats the tour that start and ends at the pub, with a large chunk of the middle bit in a pub also? 😀 😀 😀
Andrew!!!
Surely you’re not implying that PMN is a habitual frequenter of public houses? 😮
Whatever do you both mean by this?

I guess you have a real advantage being in Dublin. You can get just about anywhere on the continent for almost nothing! I’d suggest Manchester or Gatwick (both served by Ryanair). You’re probably guaranteed more variety at these two airports over any other. Alternatively, jump onto an Aer Lingus flight bound for Heathrow! Their fares are pretty good, too.

LBA may not be the biggest airport with the most varied traffic, but it can offer some superb opportunities for photography and all within very easy reach of the terminal. If you’re heading this way (assuming I’m in the country and free) I’d be more than happy to give you a guided tour of our little airport.

Well if you came to Brum I’d be more than happy to show you around (assuming I wasn’t working that day ;)), you’d have a full enough day with Ryanair’s times and there’s plenty of places around the airport permiter which each have their own/advantages obviously dependent on runway use.
If you’d like any info or your planning on popping over :D, send me a PM 😀 .
