Thanks for the pointer. Just looked though the two Stewart Scott books but can’t see it. I’ll have to investigate some other books!

Red Lightning
i think in one of the many lightning books there is a picture of the production line at warton or salmsbury of aircraft in a sort of red oxide primer, its a colour picture might be stewart scotts excellent book. otherwise the only other painted lightning was xm169 in the early 1960’s but that was painted black,
