Hello,
I am new to this forum but just thought that you guys may be interested to know that Dakota G-DAKK (South coast airways livery) took off from the former HMS Daedalus (Lee on Solent) yesterday on the south coast. I live right next to it under the flight path for the main runway. Unfortunately I didn’t see it but definately heard it!.
I believe it’s been stood here for quite a while and has posibly lost it’s storage as the site has changed ownership lately to the Coastguard (one of their SAR Sea Kings is based here), it was always a pleasure to drive past the fence and see the Dakota sat there looking pretty.
Anybody know where shes gone, I presume it landed somewhere yesterday!.
They closed the road at the end of the runway and according to the police it was because the runway was only just long enough and they were concerned she might overshoot!!??.

According to a press release from the Aviodrome, G-DAKK will arrive tomorrow between 14.00 and 15.30 local time (weather permitting) for a 2 year stay.
No talk about sightseeing flights or the likes just that for the next 2 years the Dakota will be there for daily visitors to see.

Agree with Melvyn – not an aviation friendly airfield at all. The new blue fence has caused at least seven aircraft to hit it (one with 30K+ of damage). Getting the DC3 over the fence was a struggle and this was before it was completed. I just hope that the PBY can pass through the gates when that needs to move. If it does not then no doubt airfield management will shrug shoulders and do nothing to help.

I shouldn’t be surprised if it is going to ‘live’ on the European continent for a year or two.

This whole thing with mines at Lee is amusing. They went through this whole thing about ten years ago and said they were safe.
So nothing to do with the local council wanting to develop the site????
The Dak had to be moved before the ‘fence fairy’ fully fenced it in like most other things on the airfield. Strange things going on there y’know, fences built, a sudden move to get rod of bombs that were previously listed as ‘harmless’.
Not the most aviation friendly of airfields.

They founf yet another mine off Southend on Friday this time it was not a WW2 bomb but a WW1 mine,
as for the Lee on Solent love the quite from the old boy Keith Brewer “We really aren’t in any danger – I don’t think so anyway”

Hi
Im new too! I was just about to ask the question as I was at Brandshatch on Sunday, yes I know I should have been at Sywell but I did have VIP tickets! The Dak flew past in the distance. I thought that this aircraft had left the country.
