DC-6s at Dunsfold

Although the producers of Top Gear are quite adept at keeping aircraft out of the background shots it’s been noticeable that there are 2 DC-6s parked at Dunsfold. I assume they are Air Atlantique’s pair but why are they there? Cheaper parking than Coventry perhaps. Sorry if I’ve missed this on earlier threads.

Visiting Dunsfold yesterday, I saw that there is now only one DC6 there but was unable to get close enough to identify which one it is – can anyone confirm the reg’n?

Thanks for that Bradburger – I nearly said ‘or by Aces High’ but I have heard both parties claiming ownership since it got there, so maybe it is actually jointly owned! It soon gained ‘Dunsfold Park’ titles on one side last year but these have since been painted out.

It’s owned by Aces High actually. 😉

As you say, no plans to scrap it as it comes in handy for films.

It might not be long though before Dunsfold is ‘scrapped’ as the Rutland Group (the airfields present owners) plan to redevelop it into a new housing complex. 😡

Time to get writing I think.

Cheers

Paul

James May wrote about it in last month’s Top Gear Magazine, as well as complaints about his flying noise at White Waltham

No – I think you will find that it is owned by Dunsfold Park/The Rutland Group and is regularly hired out for filming etc.

Isnt the 747 being scrapped after filming?

Does anyone know how often Google earth is updated?? tried looking at it last week but nothing at Dunsfold that i could see….pity is Top Gear is finished now untill the autumn which means no more views of glorious prop liners!!!

It isnt. The imagery (of the UK) at least varies in age from late 90s to last year or two depending on what commercial companies have donated to Google. Try local.live.com from M$, its higher res than GE and they have consistant high res coverage of the whole country, mostly provided by Getmapping plc but with some more recent additions. Another superb feature of local.live.com is 45 degree the bird’s eye views – images taken from helicopters over many built up or significant areas that are more up to date and give you the choice of what angle you view from.

Not sure as to how often google earth is updated as I found my house on it and it had my mums old car that was written off in an accident about 4 years ago on the drive, so not very often.

As for the jumbo, I think it looks cool, maybe they should suggest it to boeing

Its something to do with filming for the new James Bond movie. Same reason why the resident 747 has been adapted to have a B-52 style ‘double engine pod’ on each of the inner pylons and something looking like a drop tank on each of the outer pylons.

One was up at Deenethorpe last week so I guess the situation might well have changed since filming
