Been trying to track down what museums have DC-6’s on display.
I can find a fair number in commercial and firebombing use but few on display in museums.
The ones I have found are
– Independence…Wright Patterson Museum
– Air Zoo
– (3) others in the USA
– Red Bull in Austria
What others are hiding out there?
We have the opportunity to pursue one for our collection so I am trying to generate some contacts to see what projected long term expenses may run for an outside static display aircraft in a climate similar to ours.
So far not having much luck…
Any suggestions

Thanks for the leads…
Thanks to everyone for the DC-6 leads.
With the information I received from a number of sources I was able to put together a presentation to our board and they have granted me permission to pursue the DC-6B we have been offered.
If all the pieces come together it will be a great aquisition! The DC-6 ran for many years from our airport with PWA, Edmonton based WARDAIR used the 6B on it’s original international flights, Canadian Pacific used it on the across the Pacific Flights from Edmonton (Edmonton’s Grant McConachie was president for a time) as well as it’s service on the oil field, DEW line and water bombing operations.
Appreciate the help!!!

I don’t know whether this os one of the “3 others in USA” you mentioned.
The DC-6 at Pima County is an ex-VIP transport…a back-up Air Force One in the late 50s-early 60s.
You can go aboard the aircraft.

A bit of info on YU-AFF: delivered new to KLM in 1952 as PH-TFL, and named “Cornelis de Houtman”. Re-registered in ’54 as PH-DFL. Became YU-AFF with Adria Aviapromet in 1962. WFU and preserved since 1972.

As I understand it the DC6 at Ljubjana has an intersting, pretty much complete passenger interior, which up until recently was open to the public, but this has been stopped due to access problems or some such health and safety issue. (not sure of the exact situation)
To add to the list these is always G-SIXC and G-APSA at Coventry airport, kept active with airshow bookings for ‘SA rolling in for 2007 🙂

There has been an ex-Ethiopian Airlines DC-6 parked disused at Addis Ababba and has been for sale for years. Don’t know if it’s still there?

Pacific Wings magazine from February 2007 notes that DC-6B c/n 43128, which was highly significant in NZ aviation history having served with British Commonwealth Pacific Airways (an ANZUK airline), then with TEAL (which became Air new Zealand) and then with the RNZAF, was recently broken up at Chandler, Arizona. Only the cockpit exists now.
That’s a great shame indeed, a hugely significant plane to our history, lost.
Does anyone know if the other two ex-BCPA/TEAL/RNZAF DC-6’s are still around?

A book by Roy Blewett titled ‘Survivors 2002’ (ISBN 0 9530413 1 X) listing all propliners states that there are 22 DC-6 listed as preserved, are you interested in one particular airframe ? If time allows I’ll copy out the preserved DC-6’s. However the book is dated 2002, any know if a more current list is avialable ?

Tom,
Here’s one (N620NA) thats at least in/near your time zome. I shot this one in 1996 (sorry – a bit soft) at Santa Teresa, New Mexico… (opposite end of the apron from the War Eagles Museum). As far as I know she’s still there – recent pics I’ve seen of her she’s looking considerably more weathered.
Some data and ownership info here…
