A treat last night……DC6 droning over just to North of Spilsby Lincolnshire…..heading North East at about 11-40pm
Then this morning it woke me at 5-40am….on its return.
Lovely sound…….anyone know where it was going last night…..??
Hoping for a repeat………I will be listening out…….

I used to work for Atlantique.
When one of the Sixes came off a lengthy D check and I was invited on the test flight.
Every time a major overhaul is done ALL the maintenance crew climb aboard for the first flight. It sort of concentrates their minds when they are working if they know that they’ll be sharing the risks with the flight crew.
Its a very odd experience standing in the huge freight hold of a DC6 on take off.

Thanks Philo for the info……Yes, I knew whose it would be but when you hear or see something it is interesting to know just where it is going too etc…….a couple of years ago it was doing a run in the night heading East over Spilsby then returning at about 8-45am the next morning…..that time it was regular as clockwork for a full fortnight…….this trip Tuesday seems to be a one off……as I did not hear it this morning…….of course I could have been too fast asleep.!! Think not !!……if some big pistons had come by I would have been awake and at the window like shot..!!
And thanks Roger for posting the picture of G-APSA ……hope you get your DC6 flight soon…..
All the best,
Clive.

Can’t wait untill the “Red Bull” DC-6 is overhauled in Austria. It is certified for passengerflights, and so far I haven’t flown in a DC6. Took this one in Lelystad 2 weeks ago. BW Roger

I’m sure Air Atlantique will tell you if you ask.
The DC6’s are used for Ad hoc freight work, often for the local car industry in Coventry. Sounds af it was going Scandinavia, Denmark or maybe Scotland.
They come over me in Oxfordshire every now and then, but no set time or pattern, as I say its Ad hoc work so thats understandable.
Whereas the L188’s come over most evenings going due south and probably return the next morning, although I’m not often around to see them and it tends to be noisey with Brize air traffic anyway.
Long may the DC6’s keep flying, she makes a lovely noise and sight.I particulary like listening to a DC6 with all four chunttering away on the deck it sounds so meaty and business like.
