de Havilland Vampire – Crash Site Part ID?

Hello,

Last week I was visiting two aircraft crash sites on Mynydd Mawr, I was wondering if anybody knows what these metal canisters are at the Vampire crash site? Are they aircraft related?

The de Havilland Mosquito crash site on Mynydd Mawr visited on the same day.

Nothing to identify as Vampire IMHO.

The metal canisters are smoke flares, used by the local MRTs and (until recently) the RAF SAR crews. You find lots of them at the preferred mountain landing sites and also some of the spots frequently used for MRT exercises.

I think they are the middles of parachute flares, not bits of mosquito.
