Dear Santa … What I *Really* Want Is

A silly thread to amuse and lighten the mood here, What is on your Christmas wish list this year? Strictly historic answers only!

I would not mind a ride in a Mosquito. Even if Santa had to pull it along with reindeer. Have I been a really good boy?

is… for someone to discover and recover a Short Stirling Bomber from a freshwater lake so that she can be restored and be a fitting tribute to the men that flew and maintained her!

I must admit that I was surprised how clean it was inside.

You’re welcome to the pictures, just click either on the pictures or the links underneath which will take you to the Flickr album, click on the picture again and you should have an option to open it to full size, do that and then right click and select ‘save picture as’.
I have uploaded the images at their maximum size/quality.
Let me know if you have problems saving them.

Is there any way I can get a set, willing to pay all exes.
Thanks again.

I would like to go to Cosford and sit in the cockpit of RE 348, Lincoln, in which I spent many hours of enjoyment.

However, I can’t, as the Curator stated I would be in harms way, due to the radiation from the instruments.

Happy Christmas Jim, not the same thing but at least you won’t get the instant tan from the instruments this way!

It doesn’t require much imagination to see what you two are wanting!! BUT
It’s a waste of time, money and energy,
It’s messy, it’s smelly,
The position undignified,
The pleasures momentary,
And the consequences are invariably catastrophic.

On the other hand, some of us know which cockpit we want which joystick in.
Give me a bloody aeroplane any time. I can at least talk to them with some chance of understanding each other.

Yay, Stan, but bear in mind, you can still crash and burn in either 😉 and both are costly.
Jim.

Good story, Lincoln, and now I can understand your “wish”. Perhaps you’ll be able to manage it one day without Santa’s help….:)

No, In the 115 A.T.C in Peterborough, Myself and Forum member L. Gary flew with 7 sqdrn at RAF Upwood. in Lincolns.
I didn’t at the time live very far from Upwood, so I was able to fly with them perhaps more than others.
Having checked my now tatty 3822, I spent more flying hrs in that particular aircraft than that of all the other aircraft I have flown in. Hense, I have a soft spot for the old girl. 🙂

Interested to know, has Santa got a G.P.S. unit onboard? 😉

Do we get such days any more?

Pete

You’ve had a ride in one – ok, it was a taxi back to the hangar 😉

To wind back to 1960 so that I could go on the sponsored PPL course offered through the CCF instead of the Arduous Training Camp for the DoE Award, which I opted for, in a fit of madness!! Come on Santa, roll back those years!!!:D

A T.21 port wing without major spar damage, good D-box and proper drag spar would be nice.
