Death of an F-14

I have been interested lately in the different approaches the US and other governments have been adopting with sale of surplus airframes. The UK is quite happy to sell Harriers and Jaguars whereas the US is scared that someone may use any small part against them and it is almost impossible to purchase quite mundane items from the US because of their prohibition on ‘Military List Items’ export.

Anyway, back to the topic, have a look at this video of an F-14 being scrapped. Not much left that anyone could use.

It is all a cunning sales ploy. Watch Lockheed and /or Boeing move in and sell NEW now there is nothing second hand for anyone to buy. Even the U. S. government admits they cannot account for half the weapons they have given Iraqis, obviously no sales receipts.

True the USN has nothing to fall back on! What few F/A-18’s in mothballs are wornout! Unfortunately, Boeing will be pushing for more and more Super Hornets? 😮 😮 Man, I hope we can hold out until the F-35 comes on line…………….:diablo:

It was bad enough when they cut up the tooling…….. The true is the US Goverment just doesn’t want the Tomcat to ever return to service! Please, the US can’t control a hand full of used parts from a 30 plus year old / retired / worn out / Tomcat from falling into Iranians hands. Yet, they will sell state of the art weapons to just about anyone……….:p

Quite theatrical though, the way they work together.

Spooky. Doesn’t take them long. Those things are real monsters!

I was expecting one of them to belch at the end! 😀

i think their argument is that if F14’s are sold on, parts may find their way into Irans fleet. And as you are no doubt aware, americas relationship with Iran is somewhat strained at the moment.
