A Chinese court has sentenced to death the former head of Beijing Capital International Airport, Li Peiying, who has been convicted of bribery and embezzlement.
He will not be shot immediately, however, because he has repaid 82.5 million yuan ($12 million) that he took from the company.
The court also found that Li had taken 26.61 million yuan in bribes from 1995 to 2003, when he was assistant general manager then president and general manager of Capital Airports Holding, as well as chairman of the operating company, Beijing Capital Airport.
Chen Liming, the former group financial director of China Southern Airlines’ holding company, was sentenced to death in August for embezzlement and taking bribes. He may serve a life sentence instead.
