Defamation Act 2013

In view of a recent Forum contretemps, this Act, newly arrived on Statute, is timely. It confirms and expands freedom of speech. It extends protection to those at risk from unjustified accusations of libel and slander especially those accusations that are spurious and intended to ‘muzzle’ or curb.

The Act is intended also to protect bloggers, users of websites and foreign writers and commentators threatened with legal action from what was once the more onerous English libel laws.

I don’t know the full terms of the Act but, what is known is that its very existence will ease sponsors of websites such as Key Publishing.
