On 26 April 1942 Defiant AA377 (264 Squadron) was lost near Leysdown Ranges with Sgt W G Lewis and Flt Sgt W Mair. The wreck was recovered very early 1970’s by the Kent Battle of Britain Museum but the engine is now supposed to be in a museum in East Anglia. Can anyone confirm? It should be Merlin XX no 189230. Presumably, when it was realised this was not a 1940 aeroplane or incident the museum dispersed/parted with the engine.
I would like to know where it is!

That must be the one, Jeff. Maybe someone from the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum could confirm that it is and, maybe, how they acquired it?

Andy, many moons ago when I was still a member at the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum @ Flixton, on display was Defiant Merlin ‘from Kent’ with no attached history. Possibly the one.
