I don’t think this has been flagged up before – a short clip of the RAFM Defiant being delivered to Rochester for restoration.

Just a comment on the bare cockpit. Are we seeing the result of a visitation from the Elfin safety mafia and their latest toy, the gigercounter. A number of aircraft in museums have had instruments removed or access to cockpits denied because the luminescent paint on the dials is radio active.
There are houses in cornwall more radio active and my wrist watch would make the mafia’s gigercounter click almost as fast as an airspeed indicator.

Defiant’s display place…Hendon
Reference my question from 21 May about any other a/c taking its display place at Hendon while its gone.
My friends and I were there after the Flying Legends and its display place is “empty”. Just tyre (tire) marks to be seen. Nothing has taken its place.
And unfortunately the section with the Sunderland, Lysander, Walrus, etc was still closed to the public due to work on the building.
Regarding the Sunderland on display, I have been attempting to have my friends do the walk-through in the Sunderland for over a year now but it has always been closed each time we have been there. Which is a shame as its very interesting.
We did though have a wonderful visit inside the Solent Sky Sandringham, many thanks to the “crew” in Southampton!

Is the cockpit that devoid of instrumentation or have these been taken out for transport.
I have a gunsight for the turret available, I will gladly donate it to the project
if needed.
The cockpit was relatively complete in ’88 when I looked through it (see pics posted here previously) but IIRC, we had a discussion about the turret gunsight being absent then.

No, but I will :diablo:
Somewhere around the house I still have 3 or 4 large TFC patches that a shop in Cambridge made back in ’90. They came along when I emigrated in ’91If I ever find them I’ll mail em off to PR.

Dragged my old jacket out for Chino airshow last week just to confuse the natives while fettling the Tigercat. It worked 🙂

Slight topic drift and apologies if I have missed it elsewhere, but has the Fairey Battle had its transport damage rectified yet?

Wow, look at it there, even in bits, out in the sunshine- what a contrast to the stygian gloom it usually has to lurk in!
Luckily, it won’t be lurking in gloom when it returns

All a bit cryptic…. who was the guy in the blue TFC overalls?
Ah, that would be me….

Defiant to be restored.
Looking forward to its return. Hope it will be easier to look at than before.
Has anything taken its place on display at Hendon?

Any plans known what to do with her? Same scheme, back to “day time” colours etc?
I read through the Crowood Aviation book about the Defiant (“Turret Fighters”) a while ago, it presents a very different viewpoint of its use and value, well worth a read if you have an interest.
