Is there any publication regarding Hawker Hurricanes in the similar style of the Morgan and Shacklady publication for the Spitfire?
regards
Chris

The Frank Mason book. Amongst the 30 or so Hurricane books in my collection that one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

It is excellent news that someone is working on such a book, but it would be even better if you can confirm that he has a contract with a publisher for such an opus.

Only this morning I was with somebody who is working on a Shacklady equivalent on the Hurricane; individual histories and photos. An utterly stunning piece of work from what he showed me today. It will also have very many photographs of individual Hurricanes. Publication probably 2014.
It is going to be worth the wait.

I have Hawker Hurricane, by Robert Jackson.
It has what appears to be a comprehensive listing of production batches, with serial numbers.
I picked it up a few years back, in a second hand book shop for £6.50.
ISBN 0-7137-1683-5 Blandford Press 1987

I agree that Mason’s is by far the best of the Hurricane books, but he has a number of blind spots particularly when dealing with Sea Hurricanes and overseas operations. None of Hurricane books go in the depth of technical detail of STH, and neither do they attempt a full serial listing history.

Melv Hiscock’s – Hurricane Inside and Out
Haynes Manual on Hurricane
If you can find it, and it won’t be cheap – SAM Modellers Datafile on the Hurricane…
The At War series give some excellent pilot’s perspectives….

Is that the one with the chapter entitled “Spitfires in Bondage”? 😀
Saw ” Fifty shades of camo paint” on Amazon today priced £3.99 to day :diablo:

Because even the S&M (!!) book on the spitfire is definitive in title only!

A bit off topic, but would I’m looking for a reasonably definitive book on the deHavilland Mosquito for my Dad, any recommendations?
Thanks.

I’m sorry, I don’t know of a suitable definitive publication for the Hurricane. But I enjoyed correcting the spelling despite being a spelling imbecile myself, many times.
Can we all try harder, on the spelling bit? 🙂 Myself included!
The Guy was asking about a book not about spelling, but then the person that doesn’t make a mistake doesn’t do anything,so I’m told.:D

How about the excellent Haynes manual!!
If you want to recreate Shacklady & Morgans book you need:
Mason Hurricane Book
The Haynes Manual
The RAFM Hurricane 2 Manual
as Cotteswold says….depends on your meaning of definitive! Because even the S&M (!!) book on the spitfire is definitive in title only!
