All,
Just a reminder that the visit to the museum is now scheduled for this Sunday.
Assuming there are no further problems, I look forward to seeing as many as possible of you then.
If this weekend is anything to go by, it will be cold, so wrap up!
Please arrive no earlier than 11. I should be there until about 4.30 – 5.00, so anyone who would prefer to come later please feel free.
Bruce

Ollie, you really need to get your Nikon working…
The photo’s you have posted need improving..
4 of them are either out of focus of have camera shake. Two include a self portrait. On you have shot into the sun. And one, somehow you have managed to get in focus on the right hand side and looks like camera shake on the left!!!!!
Remember, Practice makes perfect…. keep practicing…
I dont know what was going on, it proberably was camera shake as i was cold so that may explain it.

Gooney Bird and I wondered if that was you, Ollie, in the hat complaining of needing a wide-angle lens….
Yes it was me in the hat wishing id brought a wide angle lens, but now im glad i didnt bring my new camera. I would have been snapping away on my mobile if i had.

Ollie,
Thanks for taking the trouble to take and post your shots – maybe they’re not perfect, but at least you went to the effort of sharing them and it’s given those of us unable to attend a good impression of the day. I’ve been to the museum many times but for some reason had assumed the mould was Mossie rather than Hornet related – so I’ve also learnt something interesting. Much appreciated.

…sorry, Alex, we all forgot our tape measures….as I’m (comparatively) local to the museum I’ll try and get over there when they open for business in the Spring.

Is it just me or did the Chipmunk under restoration have a very small rear cockpit?
It is much smaller than I Remember from my cadet years…… 😉

Is that a broken Mossie fuselage mould? Didn’t know any surviving. What’s the story?
Amazing 😮 what still survives to this day.
Cheers
Cees
I think that it is a Hornet fuselage mould, but I’m sure Bruce will give us the definitive version.
Thanks again for a brilliant visit Bruce. Next time I’ll try to drop in, if the owner of the airstrip agrees!

You mind you don’t get shot then….

Glad to be of service. Sorry I did not stay around longer, but I was very concious of the local Estree traffic, the microlight strip and the possibility for errational excuberance to get the better of my common sense. I flew past the previous week too. It’s just irresistable.
All that, and the Arsenal training ground next door!
Did you know that the Gunners frequent The Hangar Hotel located in the control tower of the old Hatfield Aerodrome? What taste! What style!

Thanks Bruce
Hi Bruce,
A quick thank you for letting us visit yesterday. As others have said it was good to put a few faces to a few forum-names, and to see how things are going.
The expansion plans discussed by Phil B during his intro look ambitious, but I hope to see the museum expand as planned, and get more aircraft under cover.
Sorry to hear we missed the open Comet and Dove – we were defrosting ourselves over a cup of coffee with the Museum volunteers, and then had to leave for the trek back to the South coast.
Hope to drop in again, based on time since my last trip to Salisbury Hall (in the late 70’s) this may not be before 2030 or so 😮 , but hopefully I won’t leave it so long this time.

Thanks to all who came to see what we were up to.
I hope we will see some of you again once we are open once more – the site is a bit untidy at this time of the year. With luck(!) it can only get worse as we start to prepare the site for new buildings in the next year or so..
Cheers for now
Bruce

Thanks again Bruce, to you and all at the Museum.
I was only sorry I couldn’t stay longer…….
Nice flypast too by Janey in the Chipmunk.
Was that R44 in the vicinity earlier, Hairyplane by any chance?

Nice piccies, I’m very envious that I couldn’t be there.
For an update my son appears to be making a good recovery, but he’s not out of danger yet, the most frightening bit was when they got a meningitus specialist out of bed at 3:00 on saturday morning to look at him, you know that there’s big trouble then.
Apparently he was very close to the end, fortunately this team at Addenbrookes sussed it out very quickly and pumped him full of stuff that saved his life.
He is still in the special ward on the top floor but being looked after by this proffesor who I’ve learnt is the second in command of the whole hospital, he really knows his stuff.
I think he will be ok, his only problem at the moment is that it has affected his eyesight and no-one can say whether this will recover.
One doctor went mental about the 2 doctors who previously examined him, the one at Notty Uni and the one in our village, his words were that they should be shot, I gather that they are in big trouble for not seeing the signs.
Am so knackered myself, have not slept or eaten much for the last few days, thanks for your concerns.
Pete.
