DeHavilland Sea Vixen At Bruntingthorpe

The lads are doing a fantastic job on the restoration of the resident Sea Vixen! They are busy with her complete repaint, and the difference in her appearence now is truly amazing!
Have a look at the Blackburn Buccaneer Society Website Forum to see the work ongoing…

I should have said ‘can’t think of many’, there was also a Sabre spin off with very similar to SV layout.

F-102/6

Pagen, to help with your memory, the F-102 and F-106 also had a pillar right down the middle of the windscreen.

and the new windscreen frame

That must have been quite a find, does the centre spine/frame get fixed on after the glazing?
As a fighter it seems to have the worst windscreen layout possible, I cant think of another fighter with a frame running centrally down in front of the pilots view, very distinctive though.

in answer to your question yes there is a joining strip between the two front windscreen pieces and that joining strip is wooden and therefore rotten which has allowed water to get betwwen them and subsequently permiated through the laminates of the windscreen pieces hence very restricted forwrd vision, the side windows aren’t that much better either. We’ll look at it once we get our nose leg back and refitted

The winscreen frame itself originates from ex llanbedr spares holdings

Just been doing a bit of painting at home

It’s an air start pod nose leg
anyone got any wheels lying about spare as we only have one set for 3 pods

this wheel has seen a lot of hysol paste to fill up the corrosion and therefore will only be used for static and towing not fast taxi

bruce ref #155 have you got any screens available ?

a hop in the vixen would be nice however with no nose leg fitted at the mo it might not work very well

hopefully the leg is back next week as there is some corrosion damage to dress out, of which there is a picture on an earlier thread, and we’ll be in a position to get mobile

the ECU left hand reconnect is in justins hands and we have stripped down the “spare” for ancilleries as it’s off to a new owner for cosmetic purposes hopefully if the problem with the right hand turns out to be a fuel control problem we’ll try and get the spare sorted to swop (although this is another big job for the list)

our friends at SERCO are sorting a few warning transfers for us although we are having a few problems with sizes as we painted them out and although we took photos we didn’t include a reference piece to indicate size duuhhhh

If anyone has the correct sizes for the various signs let us know as they are on the prinitng system awaiting final size checking

the simple reason for the missing resistor is that it has just come in the post this morning it should be fitted this afternoon hopefully allowing us to try and test it next week.again anyone with more info on this item feel free to contact us.

it’ll all slow down again when it’s wet and raining outside, alas we’ll all look back and say you remember the days back in the hanger

Sea vixen has now got a working Port engine and the stbd is awaiting a day or so to finish, it went for a taxi on the sat before open day but was curtailled by a hydraulics failure, the overall aim is to get the airframe taxi serviceable for ‘her’ anniversary next year, with the potential for a slow speed taxi demo at the August open day dependant on full testing prior to the day
