Passengers have been prevented from entering one of Gatwick Airport’s terminals as an electrical failure meant they could not check luggage in.
Police began stopping travellers going into the South Terminal after one of the main baggage belts broke down because of the dip in power supplies.
BAA said some flights were experiencing delays of up to 50 minutes and urged people to check before travelling.
They said the problem had been fixed and staff were clearing the back-log.
Up to 32,000 passengers were expected to arrive and depart from Gatwick Airport’s North and South Terminals on Sunday.
A spokeswoman for BAA said: “There will be delays for people as we try to check the people in who have been waiting.”
One traveller said: “They’re trying to get people from earlier flights to the front of the queue but people are just trying to get the front.”
The South Terminal acts as a base for airlines including Easyjet, Continental and Virgin.

One could say that 2 hour delays are nothing but normal at LGW:o;). Glad though to see everything was fixed relatively quickly.
