Delta Airlines

Hello,
I recently traveled with Delta and I think it is a quite a good airlines. What do u think. But there aircrafts are very old. Has it also overtaken United in fleet to claim the first place as the worlds largest airlines??

RE: Delta Airlines

Sorry, terrible airline. Dreadful service, rude crews and ground staffs, unreliable operations……, horrible colours and arrogant overall.

Yes, I have heard mixed reports about the Northwest service and so it will be good to experience it for myself. I am also looking forward to finally flying on one of their DC-10’s. Although, I appreciate that they are old now, I just wanted to fly on a DC-10 before they are retired or converted to cargo planes.

Somehow I dont like Northwest. There aircraft which comes here is an old DC-10 and they dont have very appealing service.

RE: Delta Airlines

I have travelled with Delta and apart from some of their planes being old, the service was quite good. I was lucky enough to travel on their business elite service from London to Atlanta and I was impressed with the overall business class product. The seats were extremely comfortable with a 60 inch pitch and the menu and wine list were extensive.
Compared with other American Airlines that I have flown ( AA, Continental) I was also impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the cabin crew. In October, I get to fly on Northwest and so I will see how they compare

Delta has currently ordered 767-400 allowing retirment of the entire Tristar fleet. I have never flown Delta (and have never been out of Europe).

RE: Delta Airlines

Hi Kabir,

Got your direct email to me at the same time as I saw this message, so I’m replying through this page. Congratulations on having your article accepted.

Re Delta, I don’t know if they are yet bigger than United, though American certainly is. Defining the “biggest” in U S airline terms is more difficult than it was because of the way the regionals that feed the hubs are either part owned, fully owned or just associated with the parent airline.

Do you define “biggest” in terms of mileage, passengers flown, revenue or fleet size? For instance, is United to be taken as a whole airline to include Shuttle by United and United Express, or do you exclude United Express because most of the suppliers of aircraft are independent and do you exclude Shuttle by United because its aircraft are not treated as part of the main fleet although its crews are? Difficult isn’t it?

As for Delta, their fleet is reasonably young. Now the L1011s have gone, the B727s, fast dwindling and B737-200s are the only really “old” types left.
