As a young boy of 14 years of age I learned to fly sailplanes from Derrick Piggot. I lived on the glider port in a trailer house for the summer in the middle of nowhere next to Derrick who lived next to me in a separate trailer house.
I have not been in touch with him since however I am curious if anyone is in touch with him and how he doing.
Any information?

Apologies. I had no right to doubt you.

Think glider at Flixton is the second Colditz replica/ can someone confirm?
I think this has been sorted in the past, but I cannot find it!
The first one built at Colditz. Beleived it was burnt after the war.
After the war Bill Goldfinch reworked the plans.
The Imperial War Museum has one built for the BBC, May not be full size?
The John Lee replica which was flown. Built as a single seat glider. This used some Hutter 17 metal fittings. This was the ITV documentary.
Another one is or was being built to airworthy. Work may have stopped?
The Scale radio control glider which was but by Fournier Boy. This one was launched from Colditz Castle for a TV documentary.
I think another one may be at Colditz Castle in the last year?

I haven’t lost the plot, BM. Have you read the other posts by this bloke? I was attempting humour, and also a heads-up. Please see the locked ‘Little Nellie’ thread. And the crated aircraft thread.
Mono, when and where did you share a ‘Glider port’ with DP?

Blue Max
What do you mean ‘he was good’? Had he been bad? Or, do you mean that he was well and in good form – otherwise hale and hearty?

Statement retracted. None of those claims I made about myself are true. James Bond was never a QFI.
How Strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the DP front I spoke with him last summer and he was good, still flying at 87 but no longer allowed to instruct 🙂

Caution, folks.
I was taught to fly by Biggles himself. No, hang on, it was James Bond. Lived in a caravan next to mine. On the moon.
Air I have made none of the claims you suggest. Either provide proof or retract the statement.
I can easily substantiate any claim I make and am willing to do so.
In either case do not confuse a sense of humor about the state of British aviation with making misleading statements about me.

The Colditz glider was flown by the late John Lee in the TV programme. John Lee also built most of it. Its now at Flixton. Derrick may have flown it but not in the programme. He did fly a Cayley glider in another TV programme.

Derek flew Lancs and Spits at the very end of the war, which puts him firmly in the ‘senior’ bracket’ . He flew the replica Colditz glider for TV a few years ago.
I see he gave a lecture at Challock 3 months ago, so must be in reasonably good shape!

His autobiography Delta Papa is a little gem. hard to find, but lots of great gliding and filming tales.
