Desert Spitfire VC JG891 – quick question for the experts

I’ve just been re-reading the article in another magazine (shhhh…) about the restoration of this rare Spitfire Mark, and noted the owner’s desire for authenticity etc.

Then I noticed that the control column is fitted with a spade grip which has the round Dunlop pneumatic gun button. I was expecting to see the rectangular twin button for an aeroplane equipped with cannon and guns, which this aeroplane appears to have (had).

Is it me, or is this the wrong type of button/grip?

If it’s the wrong type, what do you think might have caused its use? Are the right grips so hard to find nowadays?

Or has the other mag just published the wrong photo?

Spades….

Going back a while there was a thread saying that the cannon button grips were becoming a rare breed. She still looks sharp in that paint scheme though…:) Looks good with the tropical filter and only needs a slipper tank to complete the transformation.

…as opposed to the fact its in non-original colours, given it only served with the RAAF?

If you are being coy about it’s feature in Aeroplane magazine*, it’s the right photo as ‘G-LFVC’ is clearly readable in the picture. 😉 As to widgets, over to you!

Cheers
